What should I say, when a cashier gives me a hard time about a coupon?

I use coupons at all chances I get. I’m a college dude, and on a tight budget. I hate it when cashiers gives customers a hard time about coupons. Some of them get so rude about it too. I work part-time for a retailer, and I’m cashier trained. I would never be allowed to give a customer a hard time over a coupon.

If everything about the coupon is good, current, valid, and you have the item; then I would STOP the proceedings and insist that a manager be called over.
Personally I have never had a problem with a coupon.

Happens to me all the time I usually just continue being polite with them. Almost all cashiers are rude to me when I bring out a coupon, it means more work for them.

what do you mean they give you a hard time? If they are being rude then I’d complain to the manager

At the end of the day her/his register has to add up. If it doesn’t she/he will catch hell for it or it may even come out oif her pay check. However, manners are not an option. She/he should be told "there is no reason to be rude".

There`s a mutually amiable solution to your dilemma in such a case , Winston !

    How much can a coupon be worth ?? …….. .10 cents ? ……… .25 cents ? …….. .75 cents ?

When a cashier starts blubbering to you about the validity of any coupon , you say , firmly …… but POLITELY ….. " Ma`am , please take the coupon , and shove it up your AASS" !! Leave the groceries on the counter and walk out !!

The supreme feeling of satisfaction and revenge you get is worth MUCH more than a .25 cent coupon !!

Shop somewhere else , where the cashiers are a little less brain-dead !!

Next time a cashier is rude to you about a coupon, ask to speak to the store manager or to someone other than the cashier.

I understand what you mean about it though. Recently I was at a drivethru for KFC and tried to use a coupon from an ad I got in the mail. When I got to the window, they refused to accept it! The coupon was bigger than normal and was shaped to look like flames but it still had the item, expiration date and name of the restaurant.

Some stores may not accept your coupon because perhaps they aren’t currently participating in whatever deal the coupon is for. If they aren’t, then they should just tell you instead of giving you a hard time. That’s the only reason I can think as to why any cashier would give someone a hard time about using a coupon.

A coupon is a coupon and if cashiers give you a hard time talk to the manager and or relay your coupon experience online. And don’t go there anymore.

Tell them that maybe you could understand them being so uptight about the coupons IF the money was coming out of their own pockets and then ask them why they are acting that way. It will be interesting to hear what they have to say about that one. IF there are certain cashiers that do this to you more than once, or after you question them, I would report it to the Manager.

In the end, it’s the store’s decision to take the coupon or not. If the cashier refuses, or is rude to you, maintain your composure and speak with the manager to see if you can work something out.

I had one problem with a coupon, at it was at Sears about 11 years ago, I told the cashier to have someone put the thing back in stock, I didn’t want it. There was no reason for them to deny me the coupon being used, it was valid, it was the right item, and the coupon had not expired. That, however, was the last time I was in a Sears store. The cashier’s ignorance and condescending tone lost them a customer.

Other than that one incident, I have never had a coupon problem. In fact I went shopping about 2 1/2 hours ago, and used over $12 in coupons without a glitch.
