Is it ok to buy a coupon book for a Christmas gift?

I was wanting to buy my in-laws one of those Entertainment coupon books for Christmas, because they enjoy dining out and shopping. However, my husband thinks it might be tacky to buy someone coupons as a gift. What do you think? I’m just trying to think of something useful.

mixed feelings on this one pbm…

Yes, you’re getting them something they probably will use. Might even get them to try places they haven’t eaten before too. You’re also thinking you’ll save them money but if they go out more often than they did before are you? More coupons equal savings but using more coupons equals spending more money. Right?

So the question is…can they afford to go out more and make good use of the book?

But hey…do what you want and let your husband get them something too. The inlaws will love you both for it…really.

I don’t see anything wrong with it, it’s much like buying a gift card for them. You’re not doing it because you think they’re cheapskates, you’re doing it because you genuinely think they would like that. If he’s worried about it, perhaps he could buy them something else to offset his worry?

Your husband knows his parents better and he may think that they think it would be tacky. Some people love those books, but if you know a favorite restaurant of theirs, I would just buy a gift card for the restaurant instead if your budget will allow.
