is it illegal to discount alcohol in california?

I am the manager of a restaurant and would like to know if I can run a special on drink. Can we offer free (100% discount) alcoholic drinks? Including beer, wines, and cocktails?

No you can’t. I managed a restaurant for ten years. The law states that each drink must be charged for. Give away a drink to the wrong person and you can lose your license and be shut down. The Ca. Alcoholic beverage board sends "shoppers" out periodically just for that purpose. (Who says there aren’t any good jobs out there) You can, however run two for ones on your drinks or dollar specials, as long as you charge something for them. Watch out for your PC (Pour Count) though as the bottom line sometimes get blurred with too many promotions.
