How large of a discount should I get if I buy a floor model hdtv?
I am looking at some tvs at costco and best buy and other such stores and I don’t like the price tags all to much but I heard you can get huge percentages cut off of those price tags if you ask for the floor model. Just how large of a discount are we talking about?

Not nearly enough to make-up for the loss of life for the set.
CRT sets these days can be expected to last for many years. Not so with flat panels. You may hear numbers like 60,000 hours thrown around. But that’s not how long before the set fails, thaty’s how long before half the brightness is gone. Do you really expect to keep watching a set at half brightness? The set will probably have failed and been repaired long before that point anyway.
A floor model set may have been run 12 hours a day, seven days a week for six months by the time you buy it. That’s 15,000 hours.

It all depends on the store.
Some places only give 10% and some give 50% or more. You juat have to ask. Every store has a different policy.

There is not really a rule.
I bought a 42" HDTV a few years ago (at Circuit City) with 20% discount (as floor model).
It still works fine. No problems whatsoever.
