how do coupon companies make money?
I’m doing some research for my MBA program, and I need to know: How do coupon clearinghouses make money from manufacturers?
In other words, when a manufacturer, say Proctor & Gamble, wants to increase sales they hire someone to print and distribute coupons for them. What does P&G pay for this service?

They must be paying something or people would not work for them. This sounds like research you need to do at the library.

It’s technically advertising, so the company puts it into their advertising budget.

If you’re looking for a specific dollar amount that’s dependant on the cupon, the amount and the distribution area but they would pay the company to print and distribute the cupons

The coupon company charges a fee to the company to create the coupon (and handle the redemption). This is a form of advertising and promotion and is done to increase market share, introduce new products to the public, create brand loyalty, etc. Companies budget for this type of expense. The actual fees vary widely. You could call or write to companies and ask what their budget is and also check their company annual reports for the line item.
